A Growling Stomach

Stomach wants foodWhen we went to the cellar this time, I said I was hungry. Actually, my stomach was growling like crazy. As summer approaches, I think more about cooking outdoors. I love grilling chicken, vegetables, potatoes and more. Just thinking about it makes my stomach growl.

And then there’s all that great fruit—strawberries, blueberries, and let’s not forget watermelon. When I was a kid, my brothers and sisters and I would see who could spit the seeds out the farthest!

Dr. Ben Levy is a gastroenterologist (stomach/intestines doctor) at The University of Chicago Medicine. Here’s what he says: “Think of your stomach like a washing machine. Food and liquid is being mixed together along with the air we breathe in as we’re eating. Food, liquid, and air pass through the digestive tract and gurgling is a combination of those factors.”   (from WebMD online June 24, 2022)

  1. My stomach growls like yours does when I’m hungry! But sometimes it growls when it’s upset. I know not to put anything into it then!

My favorite summertime food is potato salad – even though we have it any time of year, it seems that we eat more of it in summer. It makes me think of summer, too, when we eat it. Watermelon reminds me of summer, too, but I like other melons like cantaloup better than watermelon.

Thanks for the link to the United States Postal Service about the Native American Headdresses. It was interesting!

    1. Dear Linda,

I never heard of a stomach growling when a person is upset. I wonder if that happens to others? I didn’t think about potato salad. I agree, it’s yummy and can be made so many different ways. Cantaloupe gives me a stomach ache. I’d be holding my tummy like the guy pictured on the website. You’re welcome about the link to the U.S. Postal Service.

  2. One of my favorite summertime foods is fresh peaches. I like them by themselves, but to think of peach pie definitely makes my stomach growl! 🙂

    1. Dear Paula,

Nothing like eating a fresh, ripe peach with the juice running down our chin. Yum. And peach pie. Double yum. Of course a tad of vanilla ice cream to top it off doesn’t hurt. I’m not surprised this is one of your favorites, as you are a peach of a person and having you as my friend for all these years has been peachy-keen.
