Zeller Cellar Word Fun #18

blowing leaves
by poetrysoup.com

It’s November and getting cold here in the Northern Hemisphere. The winds are blowing leaves off many of the trees, displaying the bare branches. In a few weeks, it might be snowing, depending where you live. Off we go into the cellar again to find something exciting.

Let’s pick from the Famous Phrases box.  “Feeling gratitude and not expressing it is like wrapping a present and not giving it.”  Well, this is more than a phrase. It’s a wise sentence by William Arthur Ward, an American who wrote books and articles for magazines to motivate and influence readers.

Once again you picked perfect words for us, since a big American holiday this month is a day for giving thanks.

Fun things to do

Watch this short video about what the Pilgrims probably ate at the first Thanksgiving. It was very different from what many American families eat today.

2) Learn about the history of the Mayflower and all its difficulties traveling from England to America. Find out why so many Pilgrims died and about the Native American who helped them.  (From history for kids—Free School)
