About CeCe
Welcome to my website. My mother told me to never grow up. I interpreted that to mean to never take myself too seriously and to always be young at heart. I love writing for and communicating with kids. Find out more about me below.
- CeCe as a kid.
Words: I’ve always loved words. I started writing and directing plays at age ten and always “starred” in the plays along with my neighborhood friends. We had so much fun!
Kid time: I volunteered at the Museum of Northern Arizona in Flagstaff, AZ doing kids’ programs and tours. My favorite was dinosaurs. I was a Big Sister for many years, and I helped first graders learn to read at a local school.
What I read: I read kids’ books, mostly for ages eight to twelve and some Young Adult ones, too. You can view my favorites on my Pinterest page @cecezeller.
What I’ve written: I’ve completed a historical fiction manuscript about Patty who refuses to let the 1950s attitudes and prejudices about what girls can do dampen her ambition to be a veterinarian. She’s determined to avoid her worst fear of becoming a boring housewife like her mother, only to discover a secret that changes everything she thought she knew about her mother in this story of friendship, family, prejudices and misconceptions.
Writing groups: I’m a member of the Society for Children’s Book Writers & Illustrators (SCBWI) and a critique group.
School: My favorite subjects were English, journalism and chemistry. I’m a “mad” scientist. I make my own lotions and potions.
Where I’ve traveled: Cities along the Danube River from Budapest to Nuremberg, Shanghai, Beijing, Singapore, the Great Wall of China, Italy, Sicily, Australia, Spain, Brazil, Mexico, England, Amsterdam, Canada, and many of the United States. I live near the Grand Canyon, one of the seven natural wonders of the world.
